Helping Others
Wondering what to do in Western Oklahoma?
We welcome all to participate in any of our ongoing ministries or to recommend one of your own. You are always invited to meetings of the session or any other church committee. Here is what's happening with our Missions Committee.
Missions Committee
2009 Thanksgiving and Christmas basket schedule (adopted by Ministerial Alliance)
Angel Tree Gifts. If you would provide a gift for a child or for children this December, please contact Sharman Spence.
One More Food Drive. We have one more food drive in 2009. This will help us fill Christmas Baskets for about 75 families. We are asking for donations of peanut butter and pop tarts as many children will be home alone during the Christmas break and will have to prepare their own meals.
First Sunday. Remember to bring a can or two of non-perishable food the first Sunday of each month for our food pantry. Other items such as laundry detergent, diapers of various sizes, or non-perishable foods in other forms are always needed. We have people in our community that are hungry and have hungry children on a year-round basis.
Adventure Program. Every other week, we make (or buy) cookies or snacks for the children in the Adventure Program at Foss Lake. These are young folks that have lost their way early in life and the program works with them to help them get back to a better life. This is how we support them.
Visitation ain't what it used to be. We are beginning a visitation ministry in our church. Could you make a phone call, send an email, or make a personal visit? Would you like to take a meal to someone that can't get out? We are not sure what form this ministry will take, but if you would like to touch somebody's life with a call or a visit, please help us shape this new ministry. This will eventually fall under the missions committee, but in 2009, the session made this a priority. Rodney Chilton will oversee the ministry this year to get it jump started. If you are interested, talk with Rodney or with Tom Spence.
MEALS ON WHEELS. We have now been running a meals on wheels program for over 9 months. On average we serve about half a dozen folks, but there are certainly other people who are shut in or not able to cook a hot meal. Remind these folks about the meals on wheels program. For about $4 a day they can receive a hot lunch Tuesday through Thursday. Contact anyone on the missions committee for more information or call the Eagle's Nest to sign up: 562-3574.
Are you looking for a mission? Join the missions committee or just stop in and tell us what you want to do. We need folks to head up or help with things such as visitation, food inventory, counting coins from the love loaves, and missions that we have yet to realize. Whether you want a large role or a small part, we have a place for you.
