All Sports Meet the Players to be held on 18 November 2008!

Come meet the Burns Flat - Dill City Basketball Players on Tuesday, November 18th at 6:30 p.m. in the high school gymnasium.  If you would like to donate items for the auction, please call Elaine Loftiss at 562-3272.

What’s That Address?

The Chamber of Commerce voted to purchase address numbers for businesses along State Highway 44.  The numbers will help with deliveries, directions, and add a more professional touch to our main street.  Don’t make your new customer’s guess where you are located.  Chamber members will be stopping by your business soon.  If you are not a member of the Chamber of Commerce, this would be a great time to join.  Numbers should be placed over the entrance door if possible.

Food, Offerings, Volunteers, and Love Needed for Thanksgiving Baskets!

The Burns Flat – Dill City Ministerial Alliance will once again serve the community by providing Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets to needy families.  This has been a growing ministry for the past few years and is expected to be even more vital this year.  This is not only a chance to help families that hunger this fall, but a chance to be a part of God’s love.

Here is what goes on behind the scenes.  In August and September of each year, planning begins in different groups including the churches, Boy Scouts, and other businesses and groups that want to share their abundance with those less fortunate.  Food drives at the local churches, schools, businesses, and door-to-door by the Boy Scouts help gather much needed non-perishable food.  The offering collected at the community Thanksgiving Service helps purchase perishable foods.  Other donations are made from time to time by individuals and businesses.  Every year the alliance has been able to help every family identified.  This number continues to grow.  In 2007, 70 families received food baskets at Thanksgiving and Christmas and 165 children received an Angel Gift with the Christmas basket.

This is great!  I want to be a part of it.  What can I do to help people in my own community?  If you know of a needy family in the Burns Flat – Dill City area, contact Anne Spence no later than 9 November 2008  at (580) 562-3609 with as much information as possible about the family.  If you want to volunteer to help sort and box food or to set up a food drop off at your business, contact Tom Spence at (580) 515 2995.  If you want to make a donation to the Alliance, you may mail a check or money order to Ministerial Alliance, Box 142, Burns Flat OK 73624 or call Dwight Shephard at (580) 515 4319 to arrange for cash donations.

Chamber Recognizes Hudson and Harper as Top BF-DC High School Students.

The Chamber recognized Jimmy Hudson as the Student of the Month and Sarah Harper as the Eagle of the Month at the meeting held at Jem Stones Wellness Center on October 20th.  Mr. McCown, High School Principle, addressed the accomplishments of these two students and thanked the chamber for being able to show off some of the school’s top student citizens.

The Burns Flat-Dill City High School hosted the district 12 convention on Oct. 29 in the Lemke Gym. There were 12 schools in attendance with 230 students participating.    Many people from this community and the surrounding communities helped to make our convention a huge success.  The BFDC Student Council says thank you to all that made the event a huge success.

The next Chamber Meeting is scheduled for 17 November 2008 at The Station at 6:00 p.m.  The Station is the new Mini Mall here in Burns Flat that truly used to be a filling station—now there’s an antique term to go with a store full of not only antiques, but modern day jewelry and collectables.  Don’t miss this meeting!

The Station—a Mini Mall is now open!  We may be a one stoplight town, but we now have our own mini mall.  Located at 215 State Highway 44—OK, just southeast of the stoplight, The Station offers a gift store—Jordan’s Grandma, a health spa—Twilla Ion Foot Spa, and space for a third business.  Look for a grand opening in the next few days.

Here's a note from Pat Hatroft.

We can't believe The Station has been open for a month already.  Business at Jordan's and Sevan's Grandma and Twilla's Ion Foot Spa has been more successful than anticipated.  Customers are surprized at how roomy and attractive the old 'station' is.  Calm and relaxing and unique are the descriptions we hear from our customers.

Grandam has something for everyone whether it be furniture, home decor, or the latest in jewelry, and even handbags from Dallas.  Twilla has toning, tanning, hydromassage, foot detox, and bath and body products.

The Station has a third business space for rent -- approximately 450 square feet with storage room and private bath.  All this in town centre--at the stoplight in Burns Flat.  The station hours are Monday throught Friday 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to noon.  We are closed Sundays.  Our phone numbers are 'Grandma' 580 331 7084 and Twilla 580 243 9742.

Mozelle’s Body Shop says give us a try!  Formerly Mozelle’s Gift Gallery, this local business is changing to meet the business needs of our community.  As the weather cools off, wouldn’t it be nice to have a place to workout indoors?  Need a special piece of workout equipment, but can’t afford to buy one or don’t want to drive out of town to find a fitness center with one.  Mozelle’s invites you to give them a try.  They have fitness equipment, weights, tanning, a water table, sauna bed, and more.  The first time is free and the rates are very reasonable.  You may still purchase some small gifts and balloons.  Business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Chamber to Meet November 17th.  The Burns Flat Chamber of Commerce will meet at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, 17 November 2008 at the Station.  The meeting is open to the public.

MEALS ON WHEELS STILL ROLLING ALONG...

Burns Flat may be a fairly small sized town, but we have our own Meals on Wheels program.  The program services elderly and people that can’t get out and about.

Meals on Wheels is administered by the Eagles Nest and the three Burns Flat Churches in the Ministerial Alliance.  The Eagle’s Nest prepares the menu, orders the food, prepares and boxes the food, and prepares a route list for the deliverer person.

The three churches get volunteers to pick up the meals from the Eagles Nest and deliver them to people that have pre-ordered the meal.

The three participating churches are the First Baptist Church, the Living Waters-Assembly of God Church, and the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.  These churches provide volunteers to deliver these meals every Tuesday through Friday.

The meal is also discounted to about $4.00.  This is quite a bargain—four bucks for a hot meal is a rare find in this day and age.

None of this would work if all involved did not have a heart for service and mercy.  If you would like to be a part of this special service we provide to people  and show mercy at the same time, talk with the pastor or missions committee of these three churches or call the Eagle’s Nest at 562-3574.

BOY SCOUTS TO COLLECT FOOD FOR THANKSGIVING AND CHRISTMAS BASKETS!

If you see a plastic bag on your front door knob one Saturday, it wasn’t left by a late trick or treater.  It was placed there by a Boy Scout.  Every year the Scouts help with the community food drive sponsored by the ministerial alliance.  The food that you place into these bags helps fill the Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets for less fortunate families.  Don’t discard the bag.  Place a few items of canned food in it and leave it on your step the following Saturday.  If you forget,  just drop you food by one of the churches in the alliance and it will find its way to the food baskets.

Be a part of this year’s giving!

Remember, that you make pick up a hard copy newsletter at Chamber of Commerce businesses and other high traffic locations around town.  Print and online versions vary somewhat based on deadlines, space limitations, and updates provided by community members (updates available online only).
