Welcome to the
Burns Flat Community Newsletter
Online Edition of What's Up! in Business Development for Burns Flat

June 2009
June is a special month, one when we remember D-Day, Flag Day, and Father's Day. Remember to fly your flag on June 14 and see if there isn't something at the Station or Mozelles that might make a great Father's Day gift. If you are taking Dad out for dinner on or near this annual observance, consider dining in town at Nora's, The Eagle's Nest, or Willies. We can expect to have places to eat and buy gifts right here in our own backyard only if we choose to support them with our business.

Publisher's Statement. The June, hard copy circulation of this newsletter is 350 copies. Readership, which includes this online newsletter version, is estimated at 550.
Here's this month's news!

TOWN WIDE YARD SALE!
Here
is your chance to hold a yard sale and not have to advertise it in the paper or
put up signs that nobody can read on lamp posts and telephone poles. With the
prevailing south winds, these signs usually end up in Kansas before you get home
to put your stuff out
anyway.
June 13th is the town-wide yard sale beginning at 8:00 a.m. This year
the Chamber of Commerce will set up north of the Great Plains National Bank.
If you would like to donate ready to sell items to the chamber, call
562-3205.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL IS HERE AT LAST!
The First Baptist Church is the first out of the blocks for VBS. This special event in the spiritual journey of our young people is June 1-5 from 8:15 AM to 12:15 PM. The theme is the Boomerang Express: "It all comes back to Jesus". Children wishing to ride the church bus should call the church at 562-3676.
The First Baptist Church also announces: We are accepting registrations for our Pre-teen Camp (completed grades 3-6) on June 15-19 at Southwest Baptist Assembly. Cost is $60. Early registration deadline in June 2. The Theme is "Rise Up". Also, we are accepting registrations for our Youth Camp at Falls Creek Assembly (completed grades 7-12. Dates are June 20-July 4. Registration deadline is June 21. Cost is $ 85. Parent/Camper meeting will be June 21 at 4 PM.
Looking Forward, the Cumberland Presbyterian Church will host VBS 13-17 July 2009. Look for more information in next month’s newsletter.
GETTING AROUND TO IT...
I talk with people every week, many looking for assistance. I always ask if
their greatest need has been met—knowing Christ as Lord, and I ask where they
are attending church. So many answer with the same cliché, “I haven’t gotten
around to it.”

When getting around to finding a church in Burns Flat takes more than one or two months, there is a simple truth at work. You ain’t lookin’. Do the math. You could attend every church in Burns Flat and Dill City in two months, and every church within a 30 mile radius in a year.
Why is this in the community newsletter? Because your health and wealth, your pleasure and leisure, and your stress and success are all for nothing if you have never taken care of your most basic need. Maybe this will help. Here is a round tuit to get you around to it. See you in church this Sunday.

Share the Memories Behind the Moments
Have you ever said, “I’ve got the cutest picture of someone. You just have to see it!” Does it take you forever to sift through those boxes of pictures looking for it? Do you find yourself sticking your digital camera in someone’s face so they can make out that special someone’s face on a tiny screen—if you hold it at the right angle. Stop it!
It was important enough to take the picture, now take the time to put it into a photo album. Creative Memories has a solution for the talented and non-talented alike. Traditional albums, digital albums, or the Picfolia Album provide a wide range of options. Call Becky Sander at 562-4764 or 799-3186, or visit her website at www.mycmsite.com/beckysander.

I Don't Want to Sit in Front of My House to Sell My Stuff!
Do you have too much stuff? It’s too good to throw away, but you just don’t have either the room or a need for it any more. Then you will want to start preparing for the town-wide garage sale in June. Start cleaning out those closets now.
Don’t want to sit on your front porch all morning selling items for fifty cents? Donate your items to the Cumberland Presbyterian Youth. They will host a garage sale at the church on the 13th to raise money for church camp. Donations accepted beginning June 8th. Receipts provided upon request.
Volunteers Needed! Stacy Cloyd needs volunteers to help with emergency readiness. If you would be willing to take a turn at opening the storm shelter at John Ross, helping people once they get there—children, elderly, disabled—then stop by Mozelles and talk with Stacy or call her at 580 445 5291.
